Transforming Lives, One Cat at a Time

Trap Neuter THRIVE (TNT)

Our Trap-Neuter-Thrive program is a cornerstone of Kitty Cat Prevent A Litter Society’s mission. This initiative not only curbs cat overpopulation but also enhances the lives of feral cats and provides rural property owners with an effective and eco-friendly solution to vermin control. T.N.T. stands for trap-neuter-thrive, reflecting our commitment to ensuring cats return to healthier, safer environments.

An average cat can have approximately 12-20 kittens in one year (three litters). Over her lifetime, one female cat could have more than 100 kittens. In just seven years, a single pair of cats and their offspring can produce as many as 420,000 kittens. By spaying over 6,000 cats in ten years, we've significantly impacted the local cat population.

In our program, cats are trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and treated for fleas and worms. They are then returned to their colonies where they receive food and shelter. If cats are found in unsafe conditions or can’t stay on the property, we relocate them to farms needing "working cats" for rodent control.

Our program has operated for ten years, helping at least 800 feral cats. In 2017 alone, over 150 cats entered our T.N.T. program, with requests increasing by 30% as our community awareness grows. Each T.N.T. cat costs approximately $400 in medical expenses, exclusive of food, utilities, and other related costs.

The entire program is volunteer-driven. Trappers catch the cats, intake volunteers care for them post-surgery, and others ensure their safe return to their colonies.

Foster Program

Our Volunteer Foster Homes are vital to caring for kittens as they grow and learn to be cherished pets. All kittens in our care must be healthy, social, vaccinated, and tested for FIV and Feline Leukemia before they are eligible for adoption. Once ready, these kittens participate in our Adopt-A-PAL events and receive profiles on our website and Petfinder.com.

Adopt-A-PAL

Kittens ready for adoption are available at Woofy’s in the Comox Mall and Bosley’s in Comox and Courtenay. The adoption fee includes the cost of spaying or neutering each kitten.

Semi-Social Barn Cat Re-homing

Sometimes, older kittens that are caught do not tame and thrive best as outdoor cats. These cats need homes where they can live safely outdoors, providing natural rodent control in exchange for food, water, and shelter. Our volunteers assist rural property owners every step of the way in acclimatizing their new feline friends. While there is no set adoption fee for these healthy, spayed, and neutered cats, donations are greatly appreciated.
