Helping Cats, Supporting Communities

Trap-Neuter-Rehome (TNR)

Program Overview

At Kitty Cat PALS, our Trap-Neuter-Rehome (TNR) program plays a vital role in controlling cat overpopulation, improving the lives of feral cats, and providing an eco-friendly solution for rural property owners to manage vermin. T.N.R. stands for Trap-Neuter-Rehome, reflecting our commitment to finding safe, permanent homes for these cats.

The Impact of Overpopulation

Did you know that an average cat can have 12-20 kittens in one year (three litters)? Over her lifetime, one female cat could have more than 100 kittens. In just seven years, a single pair of cats and their offspring can produce up to 420,000 kittens. With over 8,000 cats spayed or neutered by Kitty Cat PALS in 14 years, our program has significantly reduced the local cat population.

Our Process

Our process involves trapping, spaying or neutering, vaccinating, and treating cats for fleas and worms before rehoming them. Sick cats are removed from colonies for treatment or humane euthanasia if necessary. Managed colonies receive food and shelter, leading to healthier cats that eventually “age out.” This creates a win-win situation for both property owners and cats.

Relocation for Safety

For cats in unsafe situations or those that cannot stay on their current property, we relocate them to farms seeking "working cats" to help control rodents. This program has been in operation for over 14 years and has helped thousands of feral cats.

Increasing Demand

In 2020 alone, approximately 350 cats entered our TNR program. As our organization gains more recognition, requests for TNR services increase by 30% each year. Each TNR cat costs our society about $400, covering medical and care expenses.

Volunteer-Driven Efforts

Our program is entirely volunteer-driven. Dedicated trappers catch the cats, intake volunteers care for them during recovery, and other volunteers ensure their safe return or rehoming. By working together, we can continue to make a positive impact on the lives of cats and our community.
